Decriminalization
The LGBTQ+ rights movement has progressed significantly over the last few decades in Australia, Liberal Pride understands the critical role of Australian leadership in advocating for equality movements globally. In 68 countries, being gay is criminalised, and in 9 of them, the punishment is death. With much work still to be done for LGBTQ+ people worldwide, Liberal Pride supports:
- International decriminalisation of homosexuality.
- International decriminalisation of gender identity/expression for transgender people.
- Eradication of the death penalty as a means of punishment for LGBTQ+ people.
- Sanctions against any country that criminalises LGBTQ+ people to any extent.
- Recognition of the plight of LGBTQ+ people who are persecuted and threatened with execution in the granting of asylum requests.
At Liberal Pride, we believe in a robust foreign policy and a strong national defence. As a key player on the international stage, it is vital that Australia remains ready and able to shoulder its responsibilities in the global arena while standing as a beacon of freedom and equality.
