Liberal Pride is the LGBT branch of the Liberal Party of Australia. It functions as a special interest branch in addition to the geographic branches of the Liberal Party of Australia. Liberal Pride's international counterparts are the LGBT Conservatives in the UK, the Log Cabin Republicans and Stonewall Democrats in the US, and National with Pride in New Zealand. Established in Melbourne Victoria the branch is predominantly based in the inner-city suburb of South Yarra.
Liberal Pride was created from the existing Montalto Branch, which was based in South Yarra, Melbourne, and had been a long-standing LGBT interest branch. On 9 March 2017 the Montalto Branch voted to re-form as Liberal Pride; this was subsequently approved by the Administrative Committee of the Victorian Division of the Liberal Party. Liberal Pride was formally launched by Trevor Evans in July 2017. Liberal Pride (Victoria) was the first formally recognised LGBT group within the Liberal Party in Australia.
Liberal Pride is open to all members of the Liberal Party in Victoria. Liberal Pride actively campaigns for the Liberal Party within the Victorian LGBT community, and raises policy issues relating to LGBT matters inside the Liberal Party.
Liberal Pride campaigns in support of LGBT and LGBT-ally Liberal candidates in Victoria, including fundraising through social functions and Pride events across the country.
Guest speakers at Liberal Pride events have included former federal Minister Kelly O’Dwyer, former Victorian Liberal Party President Michael Kroger, federal Ministers Simon Birmingham and Jane Hume, federal Assistant Minister Tim Wilson, Victorian State Members of Parliament David Davis, David Southwick, and former member Jan Kronberg.
There are a number of Liberal state and federal Members of Parliament across Australia from the LGBT community, with the party having more at a federal level than all other parties combined (2021).
